Sky & Sky Inc vs Palmgard
Game 1
Both teams came out of the gate early with 9 runs in the first inning
alone. Brian Kowitz doubled his brother home and Andy Bloom doubled home a
second run to give Sky & Sky the early 4-0 lead. Not to be outdone,
Palmgard fought back to push 5 across in their half on the first. Gabe
Silber lined a shot over the left fielder's head for a 2-run blast, and doubles
by Jim Davis, Mark Benjamin, and Greg Manara helped Palmgard take the lead.
Jim Davis continued the damage in the Palmgard b-2nd as he singled with the
bases loaded to drive in two more runs. Sky & Sky answered as the top
of their line-up got things going again in the t-3rd. Four hits capped by
a Scott Felton HR which just barely cleared the RF fence gave Sky & Sky the
8-7 lead. Then the pitchers took over and kept things relatively
quiet the rest of the way. Marc Leibovitz induced 2 pop-ups with the bases
loaded to nullify a Palmgard scoring opportunity and Gary Weinapple went
throughout the Sky & Sky line-up allowing just one hit through the middle
innings. Palmgard finally pushed across the tying run in the 5th as Mark
Benjamin tripled and scored on a SF. Still in a tightly contested game,
Steve Truitt doubled to give Sky & Sky two men on as Eric Gertner stepped to
the plate. A monstrous shot to RCF sent Palmgard's Jim Silvestri back deep
enough in CF to allow both Sky & Sky runners to tag up and score. The
game ended with that 10-8 final score. Marc Leibovitz earned his first win
of the year and Gary Weinapple took the loss. Hitting stars for Sky &
Sky included Aric Spitulnik who reached base on all 4 plate appearances, Scott
Felton with 4 RBI's, Andy Bloom (2-3) also reached base on all of his plate
appearances and scored the winning run. For Palmgard, Grailen Archie went
3 for 4, Jim Davis went 2 for 4 with 2 doubles and Mark Benjamin went 2 for 3
including a 2B & 3B.
Game 2
Game 2 followed a similar pattern for Sky & Sky with the bats working
early. Scott Felton hit a ball which was misplayed by the outfielder for 3 more
RBI's. In the 2nd, 6 more runs came across. Joel Wax and Alan Smith
each had RBI knocks and David Kowitz had a 2 run blast. Three hits, a walk
and Andy Bloom's SF led to 2 more runs in the inning as Sky jumped out to a 9-0
lead. Larry Newman in the meantime seemed to be on autopilot allowing 4
hits over 4 innings, one of which was a screaming line drive to the sidewalk by
Jim Davis accounting for 2 Palmgard runs. In Sky & Sky's 4th inning
again the top of the lineup came through with 6 hits on 6 runs. Palmgard
did manage to push 1 across in the top of the 5th but the final score ended 15-3
in 5 innings. Larry Newman got the win and Mike Johnson took the loss. Jim
Davis again had a notable hitting performance, 2 for 2 including that homerun
blast. Sky & Sky's attack featured David Kowitz with a homerun and 2
doubles, Brian Kowitz going 3 for 3 with 3 RBI's, Scott Felton going 3 for
3 with a homerun and 2 singles. Each of the previous players scored each
time they batted.
