promptly drove in 2-runs with a double to left. Jim Davis then followed with
2-run single which put Palmgard up 11-10. Eric Humes finished the scoring with
an RBI fielder's choice which drove in Mike Woods.
PMS Field #3 Attman's Deli vs Legal Papers Inc.
Game 1
In a battle of undefeated teams, Legal papers went out to an early lead
in game one with several huge home runs and ran away with a 9-1 victory. Bruce
Eisenberg's first pitch, Eric Ruby's first swing, a bomb to left field for a
homerun, set the tone for the first game of 9-1 victory for Legal Papers. Jeff
Sacks also homered in the 1st with a double by Paul Shifrin to begin the scoring
3-0. By the end of the third inning, added runs scored by singles from Scott
Bloom, Dave Kopel, a double by Jeff Sacks, to set Bob Hansen for the BIG BLAST

homer blast with a one bouncer on the sidewalk in deep leftcenter on field #3 by
newcomer Gabe Silber. Marty Ellis pitched well only giving up 9 hits. Bruce
Eisenberg took the loss.
Game 2
Attman's started off with singles by Joe Vassallo and Donnie Weinapple and a
double from Lee Eidelberg to start the scoring 3-0 in the top of the 1st. Legal
Papers Eric Ruby belted a solo homerun to start where he left off in the first
game. Singles by Paul Shifrin, Jeff Sacks, Ron Bondroff and Howard Rosenberg,
matched the score to 3-3. In the 2nd & 3rd innings, Attman's went 1,2,3.
Legal Papers, Inc. Eric Ruby and Scott Bloom smashed back to back homers with a
single from Jeff Sacks and doubles from Gabe Silber and Johnny Feldman to add 6
more runs making the score 9-3. Attman's put on a clinic from the 4th inning
whereby Lee Eidelberg, Warren Scudder and Donnie Herrod loaded the bases for
Harry Schevker. Schevker hit a grand slam to tighten the game. From the 5th
inning until the end of the 7th, Attman's clinic hit singles and doubles back to
back to back to back that the cover almost fell off the ball. Legal Papers from
the 4th through the 7th inning scored one run and it was basically a 1,2,3.,
game over. Bruce Eisenberg won and Kevin Oliner took the loss. A 10-10 tie in
the seventh was broken by Attman's with five runs and the game ended 15-10.
Detour Dave Sandler and Warren Scudder were both five for seven on the day, and
Lee Eidelberg and Slinky Schevker both had four RBI. Hitting stars for the
entire day for Legal Papers were: Eric Ruby (3-HR, 2-doubles, 5-7); Scott Bloom
(1-hr, 4-8); Jeff Sacks (1-HR, 1-double, 4-8); Bob Hansen (1-HR, 1-double 2-3)
PMS Field #4 Kings vs Sky & Sky
Game 1
This season began for both teams on the same field where each had last year's
playoffs hopes dashed. In fact the same pitchers faced each other again after
The Kings defeated Sky & Sky to knock them from the playoffs in '99. Aric
Spitulnik made friends with his new teammates quickly with a leadoff single.
After tagging two times, Alan Smith knocked him in to push the first and only
run across for Sky and Sky. Two singles, coupled with two errors and a walked
allowed The Kings to take the lead after one. b-1st-->2-1. Rick Amernick
doubled home Alan Klawans after he singled. b-2nd--> 3-1 The Kings third
inning proved to be most beneficial and essentially sealed the game. First Jeff
Slutzker hit an RBI double. Then Lane Gordon hit a liner back up the box which
Sky & Sky pitcher Larry Newman accidentally stopped with his pitching hand.
After several minutes of injury timeout Larry bravely decided to return only to
be greeted by a Mike Herr line drive double whizzing by his head. Lane Gordon
scored on the hit. b-3rd-->6-1 The Kings were not done however, as Ernie
Stevenson blasted a line drive home run over the left fielder's head scoring
Marc Goldstein who singled prior to his at bat. b-4th-->8-1 The hitting
clinic continued as Ted Winner cranked a deep shot into straight away center and
Mike Herr tripled in Lane Gordon. b-5th-->10-1 The Kings cleanup hitter, Jeff
Slutzker, finished off Sky & Sky with a bases loaded double, just out of the
reach of the LCF's glove to end the game in 6 innings. Final score 13-1 for the
Kings. Winning pitcher Lane Gordon, and Larry Newman absorbed the loss. Hitting
stars for The Kings were Marc Goldstein(3-4) Jeff Slutzker (3-4 1b& 2
2B,4rbi) Lane Gordon (3-3) Mike Herr (2-3 2B&3B 2rbi) Aric Spitulnik did
chip with 2 singles to provide half of Sky & Sky's hits.
Game 2
Game 2 saw a decidedly closer contest. Sky & Sky jumped out to a more
comfortable lead in the bottom of the first. Two walks and one error loaded the
bases for Andy Bloom who drove a ball to that was muffed in the outfield. Three
runs scored on the error and Eric Gertner later singled him home. b-1st-->4-0
The Kings had an opportunity in their half of the 2nd inning, only to fall
victim to bad luck. Sky's first baseman Eric Gertner snagged a line drive and
proceeded to double off the runner ending the threat. Sky's pitcher Larry Newman
helped his cause with an rbi in the second and came around to score in the
inning as well. b-2nd-->6-0 The Kings' bats came alive in the 3rd as they cut
the lead in half. Rick Amernick's triple scored one and Joel Gordon knocked him
in. Joel came around to score on an Ernie Stevenson double. t-3rd-->6-3 Then
both teams cooled off until the fifth as Brian "Sky" Mekiliesky lined
a bouncing home run through center field. b-5th-->7-3 Jeff Slutzker doubled
home a run in The Kings half of the inning. t-6th-->7-4 In the 7th Sky &
Sky held off a rally with the help of a controversial call. Ted Winner's helped
himself with a triple and Mike Herr singled him home. An Alan Klawans single
placed the tie run at firstbase. Rick Amernick hit a dribbling ball to the first
base side of the pitcher's mound. The throw beat him but was dropped by Sky 1B
Eric Gertner to apparently load the bases. However, umpire Kenny Seaman ruled
runner's interference on the batter based on his perception that Amernick took a
purposeful inside track to the base, thereby obstructing the throw. After some
minor protest, both runners forced to return to their base and the batter was
ruled out. Instead of a bases loaded situation for the Kings with one out, they
were now faced with two outs and still runners on 1st and 2nd base. Sky &
Sky's LF Joel Wax, ended the game with a diving catch on a high, foul, popup
down the hill. He actually disappeared from plain view of the umpire in his
effort to make the grab, but popped up with the ball in hand to thwart The Kings
comeback attempt. Final score Sky & Sky over The Kings 7-5 Winning pitcher
was Larry Newman and Ted Winner took the loss. Hitting stars for Sky & Sky
was Wayne Resnick (2-3). The Kings attack featured Ernie Stevenson(2-3 1B,2B)
Ted Winner (2-3 1B,3B)certainly helping his own cause, and Mike Herr again going
(2-3) with Alan Klawans adding two singles
PSH Field #5 Rue Rue's Raiders vs Schaefer & Strohminger
Rue Rue's Raiders lost two games to Jilly's by scores of 18-4 and 10-8 with
Jilly's coming from behind in game two.
Game 1
Schaefer and Strominger (formerly Jilly’s) completed a sweep of Rue Rue
Raiders 18-4 (13 run rule in six innings) and a dramatic come from behind 10-8
victory in game two. S & S’s 18 hit attack in the first game was led by 1B
Brian McCabe’s 2 HR, 4 RBI’s, RCF Mark Rosenstein’s 1 HR and 5 RBI’s and
LCF Jimmy Caldwell’s 1 HR and 4-4. S&S scored in every inning to totally
dominate the first game. Caldwell gave S&S the lead in the bottom of the
first with a two-out two run homer. S&S increased its lead to 5-2 on
Rosenstein’s 3-run homer in the 2nd inning. In the third inning
S&S broke it open when LF Tony Luna, Caldwell and RF Bobby Morrow hit
consecutive singles to make it 6-2. 3B Andrew Rosenstein hit a sacrifice fly to
make it 7-2 and McCabe followed with his first homer to make it 8-2. S&S
added a run in the 4th when C Larry Henderson drove in newcomer SS
Chris Vukovich with a two-out looping double down the right field line after
Vukovich had walked to lead off the inning. After Rue Rue’s made it 9-4 in the
top of the fifth, S&S put the game completely out of reach with nine runs in
the 5th and 6th innings respectively. The big blows in the
final two innings were McCabe’s second homer of the day, a two-run blast to
left that cleared the rocks in left center field at the senior high, a two-run
homer by Luna and a two-run single by M. Rosenstein., which ended the game in
the sixth inning. Pitcher Mark Yokel picked up the win with a no walk
performance. Raiders Zach Scherr, who had not pitched in the league in over two
years, lost game one. Raiders Mark Benjamin had a homer and a triple. Jilly's
outfield did an outstanding job handling quite a few well-hit fly balls!
Game 2
Game two started out promising for Rue Rue’s. After S&S went down 1-2-3 in
the top of the first they took advantage of some poor fielding by S&S to
take a 3-0 lead. But S&S struck back in the top of the second. Caldwell got
his fifth hit of the day to lead off the inning. After, a strikeout and a
fielder’s choice McCabe responded with a double to put runners on second and
third. M. Rosenstein then hit a rocket to right-center that easily scored 2B
John Blum and McCabe, but M. Rosenstein hustling all the way made it a home run
by sliding under the tag at the plate in a very close play that brought protest
from Rue Rue’s to no avail. The homer tied the score at three. But Rue Rue’s
would not be deterred. They kept scratching away and Pitcher Richard Dicker kept
getting outs. The Raiders took a 7-3 into the top of the 5th.
But manager Henderson had made some substitutions that would come to
haunt the Raiders. Trailing 7-3 with two outs in the fifth, M. Rosenstein his 4th
hit of the day a double to right center. Vukovich followed with an RBI single up
the middle to make it 7-4. Andrew Rosenstein entering the game for Rich, then
doubled to left to put runners at second and third. RCF Chris Daniels entering
for RF Justin Burk then ripped a single up the middle to make the score 7-6.
S&S again struck with two outs in the sixth. Caldwell hit a bloop triple to
right-center. Morrow then doubled him in to knot the score at seven. Blum then,
gave S&S its first lead of the second game with a single to left-center. Rue
Rue’s tied the score at eight in the bottom of the sixth with a sacrifice fly.
In the 7th, S&S continued its hot long ball hitting. After
Vukovich led off the inning with a single, A. Rosenstein hit a shot over the
left fielders head for a two-run homer to give S&S the lead 10-8. Rue Rue’s
did put the tying run on base in the bottom of the 7th, but Yokel
made the big pitches when he has to to secure the win. Hitting stars for S&S
were M. Rosenstein with 3HRs and eight RBIs, Caldwell with 1HR and six hits and
McCabe with 2HRs. Raiders Richard Berger was the losing pitcher in spite of the
fact that he was pitching well. Kelvin Black and Ken Wiland hit homers for RRR
in the night cap.
In the next few weeks, the league will become well aware of our shortstop, Rick
Farley (move over Donny).
Overall S&S slugged seven homers and banged out 31 hits.
