Legal Papers Inc. vs. Palmgard
Game 1
Legal Papers Inc - 11 Palmgard - 4
Palmgard jumped on top with 2 runs in the t-1st and extended their lead to 4-0
with another pair in the t-2nd. Key Palmgard hits were by Greg Manara,
Jeff Webster, Eric Humes and Gary Weinapple. From there on, it was all
Legal Papers. Pitcher Gary Berlin settled into a groove and shut out
Palmgard the rest of the way for the victory. LP got 2 runs in the b-2nd,
1 in the b-2nd on a Dave Kopel HR and 3 more in the b-4th to take the lead for
good at 6-4. Key hits in the fourth came from Eric Ruby, Bob Hansen, Paul
Shifrin and Ron Bondroff's Sac Fly that knocked in the go ahead run. Legal
Papers added 5 more runs in the b-5th to put the game on ice at 11-4.
Scott Bloom, Bob Hansen, Paul Shifrin and Gabe Silber each unloaded
3-baggers in the inning and Larry Proper added
a double. Hansen (3/3, 2-3b) led the offense with Dave Kopel, Bloom, Ruby,
and Silber each collecting two hits. Palmgard was led by Mickey Golden
(3-4) and Gary Weinapple, Greg Manara, and Cohan with 2 hits apiece.
Richard Berger was the losing pitcher for Palmgard.
Game 2
Legal Paper 12, Palmgard - 3
Legal Paper used strong pitching, great defense and solid hitting to sweep the
second game by 12-3. Gary Berlin picked up where he left off the first
game by shutting down Palmgard the first two innings (and seven straight for the
DH) before having to leave the game. Meanwhile, LP jumped out with 3
runs in the t-1st on the strength of a 2 run homer from Marc Summerfield and
back-to-back hits from Johnny Edelson and Eric Ruby. LP added another run
in the t-4th on an Eric Ruby HR to make it 4-0. Meanwhile, Dave
Finklestein picked up where Gary Berlin left off and continued to shut down the
powerful Palmgard lineup thru the fifth. Legal Papers put the game away
with 4 runs in the t-6th to lead 8-0. Key hits came from Edelson,
Bob Hansen, Paul Shifrin and Gabe Silber. Palmgard broke thru on
Finklestein with 2 runs in the b-6th to make the score 8-2. Mike Woods and
Greg Manara provided the big hits. LP ended their scoring for the day in the
t-7th with 4 more runs on a grand slam HR by Bob Hansen. Palmgard got 1
more run in the b-7th on a 2B by Dicker to make the final score
12-4. Dave Finklestein got the win with 5 strong innings in relief
of Gary Berlin and Dicker absorbed the loss. Edelson and Ruby each went
3-4 while Hansen and Silber chipped in with 2 hits each to lead the balanced LP
18 hit attack. Palmgard's Mike Woods, Greg Manara, Davis, and Dicker each had 2
hits.

Havana Club Cannons vs. Kings
Game 1
Kings 13 Cannons 6
Cannons on the scoreboard first with a run in b-1st. John Edelman started inning
with a walk. A 1 out single by Mike Dubansky was followed by an Evan Kreitzer
RBI single. Cannons took 2-0 lead in b-3rd. Inning started with singles by Dan
Kassel and Dubansky. Jeff Kurland drew a 1 out walk to load bases. Kassel scored
on a Rich Levin RBI fielder's choice. Levin(day 4-6,3 R,1 RBI) was making his
first appearance of the season since suffering and off season broken leg.
Cannons starter Tom Paulshock had a perfect game thru 4 innings, but Jim
Silvestri(day 3-5,3 R,1 RBI, 2 W) ended it with a lead-off single off of
Paulshock's glove to start the t-5th. Silvestri went to second base on
Paulshock's throwing error and scored on a Jeff Slutzker(day 4-6,4 R,3 RBI,2B, 2
W) RBI single. One out later, Mike Pusateri's(day 2-3,1 R,3 RBI) single to CF
tied score. A Todd Katz RBI fielder's choice and a 2-RBI triple by Marc
Goldstein gave Kings 5-2 lead. Cannons knotted the score 5-5 with 3 runs in
b-5th. After retiring the first 2 Cannons hitters in b-5th, Kings starter Ted
Winner yielded a single to Jeff Kurland, walk to Rich Levin, RBI single to Steve
Henneman and 2-RBI right-field line bloop double to Tom Paulshock. Kings
exploded for 7 runs, all with 2 outs, in t-6th to assume commanding 12-5 lead.
Key RBI hits in the inning by Jeff Slutzker, Ernie Stephenson(day 2-5,3 R,3
RBI,W), and Mike Pusateri all preceeded a Todd Katz 3-run HR blast over LCF. The
teams exchanged single runs in the 7th inning for the final score of 13-6.
Game 2
Kings 10 Cannons 6
Jeff Goldstein shutout the Cannons thru 5 innings, allowing Kings to build 10-0
lead. Sloppy Kings defense late allowed Cannons to close in for the 10-6 final.
Cannons loaded bases in t-1st with 1 out, but Goldstein was able to get Steve
Henneman to hit into a line-out unassisted DP to firstbaseman Mike Herr. Kings
LCF Todd Katz 2-5 pulled a hamstring in t-1st and was removed defensively, but
Katz was forced to remain in the 11 man line-up as the Kings had no substitutes
available. Katz batting 4th in the Kings lineup simply stood in the batter's box
and drew walks from Tom Paulshock his first 2 plate appearances. The 2nd inning
walk came with 2 outs and the bases loaded, resulting in a Kings run and the
yanking of Tom Paulshock who allowed 7 walks in 1 2/3 innings. Dan Kassel
relieved Paulshock and yielded 2-RBI hits by Ernie Stephenson and Ted Winner.
Katz hopped home from 2B on Winner's double. Leading 8-0 after 3 innings, Kings
added 2 more runs in t-4th on RBI hits by Katz and Alan Klawans. Cannons got on
scoreboard with 2 unearned runs in b-6th. Kings threatened again in t-6th as Jim
Silvestri singled and Jeff Slutzker walked to start inning. Hobbled Katz then
hit a ground ball to Cannons 3B Jeff Kurland who tagged Silvestri, Kurland threw
to 2B to force Slutzker, and the hopping Katz was easily out at 1B for the
inning ending TRIPLE PLAY. Cannons added 4 more runs in b-7th, all with 2 outs
to make the score close. Jeff Goldstein improved his pitching record to 3-1.
Winner helped out his fellow pitcher offensively, 2-2 in the game with a 2B and
3 RBI's. Playing on 1 leg, Todd Katz in the game was 1-2, 2 R,2 RBI,2 W and for
the day 2-5,4 R,6 RBI, HR, 2 W.

Rue Rue's Raiders vs. Attman's Deli
Game 1
Attman's 19 Rue-Rue Raiders 7
Breaking up a close game, Attman's Deli scored 6 runs in the third and 9 in the
fourth to win a 4 1/2 inning slaughter rule game, 19-7. Scott Moffet hit a grand
slam homerun and knocked in five runs. Paul Bell drove in three runs and Harry
Schevker contributed three doubles in the rout. Joe Vassallo, in contrast, went
o for 4. Bruce Eisenberg picked up the win, his 14th of the season.
Game 2
Attman's 13 Rue Rue 5
Kenny Paul pitching for his third team in three weeks, pitched a relatively
strong game for Rue Rue Raiders in a losing effort, as Attman's Deli claimed a
13-5 victory. Don Herrod, Harry Schevker and
Fred Shapiro each chipped in with 2 RBI and Bruce Eisenberg won his 15th game of
the year.
