PSH Field #5 Kings vs
Pro Med
Game 1
The Kings received another strong pitching effort from Ted Winner in a game one
8-1 victory over Pro Med. Winner allowed just 5 hits while striking out 3
batters. Kings took the lead in b-2nd when Alan Klawans'(day 3-6,1 R,4
RBI,2B,3B,W) 2-out triple scored Ernie Stephenson(day 4-6,5 R,4 RBI,HR,2 W). In
b-3rd, Jeff Slutzker's(day 5-8,5 R,8 RBI,3B,2 HR) 2-out single scored Marc
Goldstein(day 4-7,3 R,3 RBI,2 2B,W) giving Kings 2-0 lead. The following batter,
Todd Katz(day 3-7,4 R,2B,W) reached base on an error to the second baseman
scoring the 3rd run. That error proved quite costly as Ernie Stephenson followed
Katz with a 3-run HR to give Kings a comfortable 6-0 lead. Pro Med's only run
came in t-4th when Chuck Grant walked to lead off the inning and scored on Kenny
Salzman's(day 2-5,1 R,1 RBI,W) 2-out single up the middle. Kings added 2 runs in
b-6th on RBI singles by Marc Goldstein and Joel Gordon(day 3-6,2 R,2 RBI,W).
Darron Tabatznik pitched very well for Pro Med, allowing just 8 hits, 4 walks, 8
runs, but only 4 earned runs. All 8 Kings runs and the lone Pro Med run
were scored with 2 outs. Apparently the substitute umpire assigned for this
doubleheader ended up at Pikesville Middle School, so game one was umpired by
Kings Jeff Goldstein.
Game 2
Kings exploded for 25 hits including 3 HR's in a game two 24-6 win. The game was
umpired by an assortment of Pro Med players. The game was actually scoreless
after 2 full innings. Kings took the lead in t-3rd on Jeff Slutzker's 2-out
3-run HR. Todd Katz, Ernie Stephenson, and Ted Winner(RBI) then followed with
singles to score another run. Singles by Brad Rosenberg, Aaron Shifrin(day
2-6,RBI) and Robert (RBI) put Pro Med on the board in the b-3rd. Kings got to
Pro Med starter Chuck Grant for 5 more runs in t-4th. The key hit was Jeff
Slutzker's 2-out 2-run HR. Grant left after 4 innings (literally left the field)
with his team trailing 9-1 after 4 innings. Reliever Shilo Merwitz had even
worse luck against the Kings offense as he was charged with 15 runs in just 2
2/3 inning, before Russ Dlin came in to the game to get the final out in the
t-7th. Kings starter Jeff Goldstein scattered 14 hits over 7 innings picking up
his 2nd straight complete game victory. Kings SS Mike Pusateri missed the
doubleheader with a rib injury. Last minute replacement Jeff Slutzker showed
signs of his old form at SS. The Kings did not commit an error in the
doubleheader.
