Mother's Day Morning at Northwest Regional Park
For the 5th straight
weekend, weather was again a factor with field conditions. With 3
playable fields at NWRP and a field available at Randallstown High
School, games did go on-- well, at least for the games at NWRP. The game
at Randallstown HS between the Stingers and Sky & Sky Inc. was forfeited
by the Stingers. Stingers pitcher Darron Tabatznik and outfielder Mike
Basoco failed to show up, causing the Stingers not to have enough
players to start. Meanwhile at NWRP, the Cannons survived a scare by ESB
and remained in 1st place with a doubleheader sweep. The 2 other
doubleheaders at NWRP went down as splits between Kings/NEK and
NWC/LOFT.
Early highlights from Sunday's action are posted here. We are still
awaiting highlights from ESB.

2008 Bats
Legal for
Play in PMSL
PMSL allows only bats that fit a
very strict description. All bats used in play must conform to the
following:
Non- Composite barrel.
Non- Composite handle.
ASA 2004 Approved
There is absolutely NOTHING NEW FOR 2008 in the
description of a legal bat. There has been confusion in the past on this
topic, and the only thing allowed to be composite on a bat and used in
PMSL is the grip, and ONLY the grip. All composite bats, and “half and
half” bats are ILLEGAL.
The following is NEW FOR 2008:
Every bat used
in the 2008 PMSL season will be approved personally by Neal Charkatz,
and will be specially marked so that umpires can see the marking, and
know that a bat is legal for use in the PMSL. The marking will be a
spray paint dot of a color not yet chosen. Only an appointed league
representative may mark a bat. It is NOT the umpires responsibility to
allow or disallow a bat, it’s simply an added thing for them to look
for, and help supervise. All bat inquiries should be brought to Neal
Charkatz directly. Bats that are
illegal for game use may also not be used for batting practice.
Penalties for Illegal Bats:
If a bat is used that
is illegal, the 1st
offense is a fine to the offending player of $25, and also a $50 fine to
the team. The fines are on a per at-bat basis. $25/$50 for every at-bat
the bat is used. (an at-bat is determined by a 1 pitch minimum)
2nd
Offense in the same season by a team is forfeiture of any game in which
an illegal bat is used.
Bat Suggestions:
The following is a list of bats that are mostly new
for 2008 and are legal in the PMSL. This list is not exclusive, and if
anyone has a bat that is new for 2008 and fits our descriptions and
isn’t on our list, feel free to email it to me so I can add it. All bats
listed below are legal for use…
Worth
Revolver
Worth Blade
Demarini 375
Demarini Raw Steel (the White Steel is illegal!/
the Raw Steel is new for 2008)
Demarini Ultimate Weapon
Anderson Pyrotech
Anderson Techzilla
Anderson Rockettech
Feel free to email Neal at
ncharkatz@gggco.com
at anytime so I can help determine if a bat is legal or not. If when you
bring a bat to me at the fields, and I have any question if a bat is
legal or not I will not allow it for use that week until I can do
research on it to see if it conforms.
Should you have a bat that you aren't sure of it's legality,
please email
Neal Charkatz at
ncharkatz@gggco.com
with the specific bat specifications and the league will research and see if the
bat fits the necessary criteria to be fit for PMSL play.

Baltimore County Bans Smoking at Fields
The Baltimore County school
board has issued a full-time ban on smoking at any school owned property.
This ban carries over to the use of ball fields thru the recreation and
parks department. Therefore, to protect our permits, a smoking ban will be enforced by our league
at the field area of Northwest Regional Park.
Smoking will not be permitted in the area of the playing fields. A fine
of $15 will be charged to any player or fan in violation of this rule. Smoking
will only be permitted past the barriers near the parking lot area. Any
player in violation of this rule will not be permitted to play the
following week until his fine is paid to the league.

Cannons Repeat as League Champions

Cannons Defeat DC Dental in
Championship Game
The second year DCD squad made it to the
Finals, defeating the Kings 10-8 (8 Innings) in the Semi-Finals. Yoni
Rosenblatt's 2 RBI 2 out double gave DCD the lead in t-8th and DCD
pitcher Tzvi Friedman shut down the Kings offense in the bottom of the
inning to send DCD to the league Finals. The opening game elation was
short-lived as they faced the Havana Club Cannons in the Finals. The
Cannons scored 2 runs in each of their first 3 at-bats and cruised to a
14-6 victory. For the Cannons, it was their 2nd straight season as the
Regular Season Champions and the Tournament Champions.
Highlights from
Finals action are posted here.
