University of Maryland Heart Center Makes Huge Donation
It is with great pleasure and appreciation that we announce that the University of Maryland Medical Center donated a portable defibrillator (known as an AED) to the Pikesville Men's Softball League. The AED, which can be a lifesaving tool when someone goes into cardiac arrest, will be available during all league games that take place during the season.

The History of the Pikesville Men's Softball League
Much work has been done during the off-season to update the league history page and to share some stories about our alumni. Check out the updated information here and also send along some of your recollections as the league will celebrate its 35th anniversary in 2009.

Kings defeat Cannons in Championship Game
The Kings won the Regular Season Championship for the 2nd time in 3 seasons, but despite trips to the final Sunday 6 seasons in-a-row, had not claimed the Championship Trophy since 2005. The #1 Kings completed their quest for the Playoffs title with a 7-5 win over the arch rival #4 Cannons. It was the Kings first Finals win over the Cannons in 4 attempts. The Kings Chuck Grant dueled on the mound against Cannons Tom Paulshock. Grant posted his first career Championship Game pitching victory.

The Cannons advanced to the Finals with a Round 5, 7-6 win over #5 Sky & Sky Inc. Despite a 13-15 record in the Regular Season, the Sky team came on very strong in the 2nd half of the Regular Season and continued with powerful performances throughout the Playoffs. Sky trailed 6-3 after 3 innings when rain suspended play on 8/15. During the completion of the suspended game today, several brief rain showers threatened play. Sky was able to pull to within 1 run in b-6th, but Cannons Mark Yokel was able to keep Sky off the board in the 7th inning, giving the Cannons a trip to the Finals against the Kings.

2010 Bat Regulations for PMSL

PMSL allows only bats that fit a very strict description. All bats used in play must conform to the following:

Non- Composite barrel.
Non- Composite handle.
ASA 2004 or 2008 Approved

There has been confusion in the past on this topic, and the only thing allowed to be composite on a bat and used in PMSL is the grip, and ONLY the grip. All composite bats, composite-like, and “half and half” bats are ILLEGAL. All bat inquiries should be brought to Mike Herr directly. Bats that are illegal for game use may also not be used for batting practice.

This list is not exclusive, and if anyone has a bat that is new for 2010 and fits our descriptions and isn’t on our list, feel free to email it to me so I can add it.

E-mail mikeherr@pikesvillesoftball.com at anytime so I can help determine if a bat is legal or not. If when you bring a bat to me at the fields, and I have any question if a bat is legal or not, I will not allow it for use that week until I can do research on it to see if it conforms.

Penalties for Illegal Bats:
If a bat is used that is illegal, the 1st offense is a fine to the offending player of $25, and also a $50 fine to the team. The fines are on a per at-bat basis. $25/$50 for every at-bat the bat is used. (an at-bat is determined by a 1 pitch minimum).

2nd offense in the same season by a team is a forfeiture of any game in which an illegal bat is used.
